This song is about the being stuck in screens and boxes, holding on to collecting vinyl LPs and melodies. We’re in a moment of inflection creating our new world with the fragments of culture past, hints of David Bowie and Prince.

The new 6 song EP ‘Cacophony (Part 1)’ with the video for ‘Messed Up World’.

Artist…

Two events had a profound impact on this recording: the death of a writer / mentor from COVID, and the impending birth of my daughter. The prospect of bringing life into this schizophrenic death watch mess considerably changed my creative mind. I sent Jacob a text. We decided to sneak in a week in at Tiny Telephone Oakland, the sister studio, which was also bigger for easier ‘distancing’. The days before the session found me writing 9 new songs in a fevered flurry: ‘Cacophony’, ‘Messed Up World’, ‘Here Comes The Light’.

I emailed demos to drummer Jason Slota (John Vanderslice, Thao & the Get Down Stay Down) & bassist Ian Miller (Strangelight, Kowloon Walled City) 48 hours before we pressed ‘record’. We mixed all 11 songs in one day. You can add masks and a forehead thermometer to the gear list for this one. I think it might be my best release yet – and by that I mean my daughter Parker. The record’s pretty great, too.’
